How can we help?
Guides and answers for getting the most out of Velora, privately.
Getting started
What is Velora?
Velora is a private personal-finance app for iPhone. You track your spending, set budgets and savings goals, scan receipts, and split bills in Shared Spaces, without connecting your bank, and without your text being sent to an AI server. All the smart features, including the optional Invest assistant, run on your device (see Privacy Policy).
How do I add my first transaction?
You have three ways:
- Quick add: type it the way you'd say it, e.g.
Waitrose groceries 62.40, Uber 14.80. Velora reads and categorises it; you confirm and save. - Scan a receipt: photograph it and Velora reads the total and merchant on your device.
- Import a statement: bring in a bank-statement
.csvfile and confirm the entries.
Nothing is recorded until you confirm it.
Do I need to connect my bank?
No. Velora never asks for your bank login. You add transactions by typing them, scanning receipts, or importing a CSV statement, so you stay in complete control of what's recorded.
Which devices are supported?
Velora runs on iPhone, via the App Store.
Privacy & security
Is Velora genuinely private?
Yes. The quick-add parser, the in-app budgeting assistant, statement import and receipt scanning all run on your device; there's no large language model or AI server behind them, and the text you type isn't sent away to be processed. Receipt images are never uploaded, and only the transactions you confirm are saved. The optional Invest assistant works the same way: it answers with rule-based logic on your device, and your questions are never sent to an AI provider. You can read the detail in our Privacy Policy.
Where is my data stored?
The transactions you save are synced to your own private account so they're backed up and available across your devices. Each person's records are isolated at the database level, walled off from every other account, and protected with encryption in transit (TLS). Receipt images stay on your device and are not part of that sync.
Can I lock the app with a PIN?
Yes. In Settings → App Lock you can set a device-local PIN, with optional Face ID / Touch ID on top. The PIN is stored only on your device (as a salted hash), never on a server.
Do you sell or profile my data?
Never. Velora shows no ads, doesn't sell your data, and doesn't share it for profiling. Your records exist to serve you inside the app.
Adding & importing
How does natural-language quick add work?
Type one or more entries in plain language and Velora splits them into transactions with a category and amount. For example Tesco 45, lunch 12, salary 2100 becomes three entries you can review before saving. It all happens on your device.
How do I scan a receipt?
Choose to scan a receipt and take a photo. Text recognition runs on your device to read the total and merchant; you confirm the result before it's saved. The image itself is not uploaded anywhere.
How do I import a bank statement (CSV)?
Export a .csv statement from your bank, then in Velora choose to import it. Velora auto-detects the columns and date format, categorises the rows, and lets you review everything before saving. This is a one-time file import. Velora doesn't stay connected to your bank.
How do I track subscriptions and recurring bills?
Mark a transaction as recurring (e.g. a monthly subscription) and it appears in the Subscriptions view, where Velora totals them and flags price increases. Velora doesn't guess subscriptions from your history; you decide what counts, so the list is always accurate.
Budgets, goals & insights
How do I set a budget?
In Budget, set a monthly limit for each category. Velora tracks your spend against it and can remind you as you approach the limit (around 80%) and when you reach it (100%).
How do savings goals work?
Create a goal with a name and a target amount (e.g. Holiday fund: £2,000) and update the amount you've saved as you go. Velora shows your progress towards each goal.
What insights does Velora show?
The Insights screen shows a category breakdown of where your money goes, month-on-month trends over the last several months, and your income-vs-expense balance. You can also export a polished PDF statement for any month.
Will Velora remind me about my budget?
Yes, Velora can send gentle local reminders when you're nearing or over a category limit, and reminders for upcoming recurring bills. Make sure notifications are enabled for Velora in your device settings.
Shared Spaces
What are Shared Spaces?
A Shared Space lets you split bills with a partner, flatmates or friends. Everyone in the Space adds shared expenses, and Velora keeps a clear running balance of who owes what.
How do I invite someone?
Create a Space and share its join code (a short 6-character code). The other person enters the code in their Velora app to join. Only members of a Space can see its expenses.
How are expenses split?
Shared expenses are divided equally among the Space's current members, and Velora computes the simplest set of settle-up payments so everyone can square up with the fewest transfers.
Billing & subscription
How much does Velora cost?
Velora is free to download and starts with a 14-day free trial of Velora Pro. After the trial it continues as an auto-renewing subscription: $5.99/month or $49.99/year (around a 30% saving). You can cancel any time before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
Is there a free version?
Velora is one simple plan: you get full access free for 14 days, then it becomes Velora Pro. There's no separate cut-down free tier; everyone gets the complete app during the trial so you can decide properly.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so you cancel in your App Store account:
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Velora → Cancel.
You keep Pro access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
I paid but Pro isn't active: what do I do?
Open Settings → Restore purchases to re-sync your subscription. Make sure you're signed in to the same App Store / Google account you purchased with. If it still doesn't appear, contact us and we'll help.
How do refunds work?
Because Apple handles billing, refunds are requested through Apple: via reportaproblem.apple.com. We're happy to help you through it.
Your data & account
How do I export my data?
From the month view you can export a clean, professional PDF statement for any month, then share or save it. It includes your transactions, category breakdown and totals for that period.
Which languages and currencies are supported?
Velora is available in five languages (English, Türkçe, Українська, Italiano and Polski) and six currencies: GBP, USD, EUR, TRY, PLN and UAH.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings, choose Delete account and confirm. This permanently removes your account and the data stored in it. (Cancelling your subscription is separate; do that in your App Store settings.)
Troubleshooting
The receipt scan didn't read everything correctly
On-device scanning works best with a flat, well-lit receipt and the whole receipt in frame. You can always edit the amount, merchant or category on the confirmation screen before saving.
My budget reminders aren't arriving
Check that notifications are enabled for Velora in your device's settings, and that the relevant budgets have limits set. Reminders are local to your device.
A Shared Space isn't updating
Shared Spaces sync over the internet, so check your connection. Pull to refresh the Space, and confirm everyone is using the same join code for the same Space.
My data isn't syncing between devices
Make sure you're signed in to the same Velora account on each device and have a working connection. Your saved transactions sync to your private account automatically.
